A Manifesto to give even more strength to heroic viticulture, with the principles and values of which this agricultural practice and the winemakers who operate in the mountains, on steep slopes and in the small islands are bearers.

It is the "Manifesto of heroic viticulture" written by Cervim signed in recent weeks on the occasion of Vins Extrêmes and which will be the protagonist and shared for the whole of 2020 on the occasion of events and wine events.

«The Manifesto of heroic viticulture - said Cevim President Roberto Gaudio - represents a propositive synthesis of what extreme vineyards and the daily work of winemakers are, to the benefit of the environment, landscape and biodiversity. A Manifesto that is also a commitment that the world of wine has taken to promote this type of viticulture and that will be signed and shared by bodies, consortia of protection, individual producers and associations of wine, the world of research and professionals».

"MANIFESTO OF HEROIC VITICULTURE"

Heroic viticulture is an extraordinary expression of man’s ability to give a sustainable future to people who operate in peculiar and difficult geographical territories.

The heroic vineyards represent a monument to the work of man and the conservation of the territory and must also be protected for their historical, cultural and especially landscape interest.

Heroic viticulture plays a fundamental role for the conservation of the environment in delicate and fragile areas, preserving it from the abandonment and aggressions of climate change.

The vines, cultivated in heroic areas, grow in suitable environments and are conservers of varietal biodiversity, from which are obtained original wines of high organoleptic quality.

The cultivation of vines in heroic areas is a fundamental activity for the maintenance of agriculture and human presence in sites with permanent structural difficulties, as well as for a correct relationship between the different productive activities for the benefit of the circular economy.

The heroic viticulture with its unique landscapes represents an added value to the advantage of tourism and related activities.

Heroic viticulture must find adequate recognition within the framework of a coherent and comprehensive policy in favour of its territories and their sustainable development.

The production of heroic wines is more expensive than in other environments. On the market their origin must be clearly recognizable and valued through the use of the appropriate mark "CERVIM - Heroic Viticulture" so as to guarantee both the right remuneration to the producer and the recognizability to the consumer.

The territories of heroic viticulture must have the appropriate international recognition, UNESCO and FAO, as well as national ones.

In order to protect and promote heroic viticulture, the international reference institution is CERVIM.
