Third International Congress on Mountain and Steep Slopes Viticulture

The Congress, which had as a main theme ,,The contribution of mountain viticulture and/or in fast slope’’ had seen the participation of a grand number of specialists, researchers and foreign technical specialists representing 11 countries, underlining the importance of social and economic role  that mountain viticulture brings in many regions. Almost 80  projects, divided in oral presentations and advertising banners in three sessions.

Session one:  Positive aspects and development opportunities of the mountain viticulture and/or in fast slope from a technical, environmental, economic, cultural and touristic point of view.

Session two: Problems and risks  of the mountain viticulture and/or in fast slope from a technical, environmental, economic, cultural and touristic point of view.

Session three: Development proposals and successful examples  of the mountain viticulture and/or in fast slope from a technical, environmental, economic, cultural and touristic point of view.

During the three days of Congress, have been analised the weak points and have been underlined the strong points of this type of viticulture that cannot be compared with other types of viticulture because of it’s unic and special features.

From different aspects presented in the congress has been put in evidence that the mountain viticulture and/or in fast slope couldn’t be protected different than with concrete actions, corresponding with the dangers that threaten it.

In the last day, at the end of the scientific presentations, has been organised a ,,round table’’ under the name of ,,Instruments of assurance and preventing the degradation of mountain viticulture and/or in fast slope’’ to which have participated the following organisation: Giovanni La Via from the European Parliament, permanent referral of the Economic Comision; Michele Alessi, responsible of the Viticulture sector at the Institution of Political Community and international market, of the Ministry of Agriculture politics; ; M. Joël Giraud Vice presedent AEM – European  Association of the Mountains  - Vice President of the regione Province-alpes-Côte d’Azur; il vice president dell’OIV François Murisier, the President of the  Directive Comitee of AREV (CEPV), Claudio Rosso; and other members of national and international wine  producers organizations.

The round table had the aim to review the necessity and attention that mountain viticulture and in fast slope requires, and even more when it comes to the preparation of the knew UMC and of the eliberation of rights of production to avoid the identity and cultural loss which represents the force of many territories.

Very important fact attached to this proposal is the intervention of the honorable Giovanni La Via,  in which has mentioned that: the role of the mountain viticulture and in fast slope, therefore part of the heroic viticulture, because of the difficulties that come up in the production process, is obvious and can be retaken into consideration because of the functions presented in the ‘’public goods’’ which has been included into PAC after  2013, a very expected fact for different sides.

Michele Alessi also talks about the necessity of implementing the instruments that already exist in the environment of  PSR for sustaining this type of viticulture.

Dario Cartabellotta, general director of the Wine and Vineyard institute, has reaffirmed a concept expressed also by some of the participants at the congress, which is the necessity to improve the information and communication system of this type of viticulture for a better defension of it’s identity and for better knowledge about CERVIM and it’s activities.

Finally, François Stevenin, president of Cervim, has concluded underlining the necessity of the identification criterias of mountain viticulture and in fast slope to be recognized by the European Community as identification parameters of such type of viticulture, as it has been required by others among which Costantino Charrère president of FIVI and  Mauro Jaccod viticultor and president of the Cooperative “Caves du Vin Blanc.”  This will make possible the realization of a working base for development projects and valorization of all areas that belong to you.
